Located in Newton’s Nonantum neighborhood, this is a place that invites both locals and visitors to slow down and appreciate the simple joy of fresh seafood in a warm, approachable setting.
The atmosphere here is quietly lively yet relaxed—there’s a friendly hum behind the counter where the owner often takes the time to engage with guests, share his knowledge, and expertly prepare every order just the way you want it. It’s exactly the kind of place where you might find yourself chatting about the catch of the day or swapping favorite recipes while waiting for your meal. What makes Steamers feel special isn’t just the freshness of the seafood, but the thoughtful balance it strikes between convenience and quality. Whether you’re drawn in by the bright scent of the market or the inviting promise of a well-crafted lobster roll or fried seafood plate, the experience is grounded in authenticity and attention to detail. The bread might have a bit more bite than you expect, the pickle spear a subtle but appreciated accompaniment; these little touches reveal a place mindful of tradition yet unafraid to make small, personal twists.

It’s a spot where the staff’s warmth and genuine care make every visit feel less like a transaction and more like a shared moment in a part of the community that knows and values good food as an everyday pleasure.

Had to get a lobster roll when up in Boston. This place was near where we at so we went with it. Lobster roll didnt have a ton of lobster like I have seen before but it was still good. The roll it was on was a little more firm of a bread. Not a lobster roll pro by any means just not what I remember these sandwiches being like. Came with a pickle spear which added to the flavor. Was good overall. We also ordered the clam chowder and an order of the lobster bisque. The clam chowder was really good. Creamy and the potatoes mixed with the clams were good. The highlight was the lobster bisque by far! My mouth just started watering just thinking about it. I couldn't pin point the season I kept tasting, but I thought it was a mixture of cayenne pepper and red chili powder. The creamyness and richness were phenomenal. I got one big chunk of lobster in the whole bowl. My only gripe is I wish there was just a little more "meat" in each dish. Still deserving of the 5 stars and will definitely come back for that lobster bisque! Lots of fresh seafood for sale as well, and several people were coming in throughout our meal ordering different catches.

Our favorite place to get seafood. We go weekly to buy fish to bring home to cook for dinner. The quality and taste is exceptional. Highly recommend. The service is wonderful and friendly.

Cool seafood spot in Nonantum. A great place to go for fish and lunch (they have some seating available). The staff is very friendly and the food was ready quick. Great option if you’re in the mood for fried foods in Newton.

High quality ingredients for reasonable prices. The owner is typically who runs the counter and is a great guy. He is very knowledgeable and happy to trim up a fish however you need it. The selection varies based on what he can get but it's all been very good. They also make their own lobster rolls and other cooked seafood plates so it's good for takeout, although I'd recommend it more for the raw seafood than their own cooked food. It's my go to place for local fresh seafood to bring home to cook in the area for sure!

Found this place on google, me and my brother stopped by on our way back from Maine to Virginia. Absolutely delicious, the crab cakes were on point. The lobster on the roll was fresh, a little too much bread in lobster to bread ratio, still it was phenomenal. The highlight of the menu though, is the lobster bisque. Best bisque I had in my 9 days in New England and I ate seafood everyday.
